What’s Included in Your Split System Installation

From first call to cool air — here’s how we work.

Step 1 — Free site assessment

Victor or Vitaly visit your home to assess your space in person. We measure room dimensions, check ceiling height and insulation, note window size and sun exposure, and review your switchboard and electrical readiness. This visit is free and comes with no obligation — it simply ensures we recommend the right system for your home, not the most expensive one.

Step 2 — System recommendation

Based on the site assessment, we recommend the right brand, model, and kW rating for your space. We factor in Sydney’s humidity, your property type — whether that’s a Balmain terrace, a Pyrmont apartment, or a family home on the North Shore — and your budget. We don’t upsell. If a 3.5kW Daikin Cora is the right fit, that’s what we recommend, even if a 5kW unit would be a bigger sale.

Step 3 — Fixed-price quote

You receive a clear, itemised quote covering the unit, installation labour, mounting hardware, refrigerant piping, electrical connection, drainage, and commissioning. Everything is spelled out — no vague line items, no “extras” appearing on installation day. The price you agree to is the price you pay.

Step 4 — Professional installation

Our ARC-certified technicians carry out the full installation: indoor unit mounting, outdoor unit placement, copper piping and insulation, electrical connection to a dedicated circuit, condensate drainage, and refrigerant charging. Most split system installations are completed within a single day — typically 3 to 5 hours. We protect your floors and furniture during the work, and we clean up completely before we leave. No mess, no cigarette smoke, no rubbish left behind.

Step 5 — Commissioning and handover

Once installed, we commission the system: testing cooling and heating modes, checking refrigerant pressure, verifying airflow, and calibrating the thermostat. We walk you through the remote control or Wi-Fi app, explain the filter cleaning schedule, and answer any questions. Your 5-year manufacturer warranty is activated on the spot. And if anything needs attention down the track, we’re available 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM, seven days a week.

Split System Solutions for Every Sydney Home

Terraces & Heritage

Sydney’s Inner West and Eastern Suburbs are full of beautiful Victorian and Federation terraces — but they come with installation challenges. Limited wall space, heritage compliance requirements, and aesthetic concerns mean you need an installer who knows these properties inside-out.

Over 20 years, we’ve installed hundreds of split systems in Balmain terraces, Leichhardt workers’ cottages, and Glebe heritage homes. We route discreetly through existing wall cavities, keep outdoor units hidden from street view, and work within heritage guidelines.

Apartments & Units

Apartment installations in Pyrmont, CBD, and Surry Hills require strata body corporate approval, careful outdoor unit placement within strata rules, and quiet models that meet noise regulations. We handle the strata application process and recommend Daikin models with indoor noise levels as low as 19 dB.

For balcony-mounted outdoor units, we ensure compliant mounting, proper drainage, and vibration isolation. Our team has experience navigating strata rules across Sydney’s major apartment complexes.

Family Homes

For larger family homes across Sydney, a single split system might cover the main living area while bedrooms get individual units. If you need 2–5 rooms cooled, we’ll advise whether individual splits or a multi-split system is more cost-effective for your layout.

We size every system accurately based on room dimensions, insulation quality, window orientation, and the number of occupants — no guesswork, no oversizing.

Investment Properties

Investment property owners need reliable, cost-effective installations that increase rental appeal without breaking the budget. Our value models start from $1,200 installed. As one of our landlord clients wrote: “Tenants signed a new contract for 2 years with increased price. You are CHAMPIONS!”

We coordinate directly with property managers and can complete installations without the owner being present. Reliable brands, clean installation, and a 5-year warranty your tenants can count on.

How Split System Air Conditioning Works

A split system air conditioner consists of two connected units — an indoor wall-mounted unit containing the evaporator coil and fan, and an outdoor compressor unit housing the condenser. Refrigerant circulates between the two via insulated copper piping, absorbing heat indoors and releasing it outside.

All modern split systems we install use inverter technology, which adjusts compressor speed to maintain your set temperature rather than cycling on and off. This delivers 30–50% energy savings compared to older non-inverter models, quieter operation, and more consistent comfort. Learn more about inverter technology →

Reverse cycle means your split system provides both cooling in summer and heating in winter — essential for Sydney’s variable climate. Energy star ratings (shown on the yellow label) indicate efficiency: we recommend 3.5 stars minimum, with many Daikin and Mitsubishi models achieving 5+ stars.

Correct sizing is critical. A unit too small won’t cool effectively; too large and it short-cycles, wasting energy and reducing lifespan. The general rule is 120–150 watts per square metre, adjusted for ceiling height, insulation, sun exposure, and Sydney’s humidity factor. Use our sizing guide →

In New South Wales, all refrigerant handling and split system installation must be performed by ARC-licensed technicians. Unlicensed installation carries fines up to $50,000 and voids manufacturer warranties. ABC Air holds ARC Licence AU05219 — every installation is fully compliant. Compare split vs ducted systems →

Split System Installation FAQ

How much does it cost to install a split system in Sydney?

Split system installation in Sydney typically costs $1,200–$4,200 fully installed, depending on room size, kW rating, brand, and installation complexity. A small bedroom unit starts around $1,200, while a large 7kW living room unit can reach $3,500–$4,200. Back-to-back installations (where the indoor and outdoor unit share a wall) are at the lower end; longer pipe runs and difficult access add cost.

How long does split system installation take?

Most split system installations are completed in 3–5 hours. A straightforward back-to-back install can be done in under 3 hours. More complex jobs — multi-storey homes, long pipe runs, or heritage properties requiring careful routing — may take a full day. We always aim to finish in a single visit.

Do I need council approval for a split system?

Most residential split system installations in NSW are classified as exempt development and don’t require council approval. However, if your property is heritage-listed or in a heritage conservation area, you may need a Development Application (DA). We advise on this during your free site assessment.

What size split system do I need for my room?

As a general guide: 2.0–2.5kW for rooms up to 20m², 3.5kW for 20–35m², 5.0–6.0kW for 35–50m², and 7.0kW+ for 50–65m². However, correct sizing also depends on ceiling height, insulation, window size, sun exposure, and the number of occupants. We calculate this accurately during our site assessment.

Can you install a split system in an apartment?

Yes. We regularly install split systems in apartments across Pyrmont, CBD, Surry Hills, and the Eastern Suburbs. You’ll need strata body corporate approval before installation — we can guide you through the application process. We recommend quiet Daikin models (as low as 19 dB indoor noise) for apartment living.

Which brand is best — Daikin, Mitsubishi, or Fujitsu?

All three are excellent choices for Sydney homes. Daikin leads on energy efficiency and is manufactured locally at their Chipping Norton factory. Mitsubishi Electric offers premium build quality and whisper-quiet operation. Fujitsu provides strong value with smart features like human sensor technology. We help you choose the right brand for your specific needs during the consultation.

What’s the difference between inverter and non-inverter?

Inverter split systems adjust compressor speed continuously to maintain your set temperature, using 30–50% less energy than non-inverter models that cycle on and off. All models we install are inverter — they’re quieter, more efficient, and provide more consistent comfort. The energy savings typically pay back the slightly higher upfront cost within 2–3 years.
